A few checks before the journey
Great Britain overviewTyres, visibility and knowing when to get help.
Check the basics
Use the vehicle handbook and GOV.UK checklist for tyres, lights, visibility and fluid checks. Tyres need the correct pressure for the vehicle and load, and must meet tread and condition requirements.
Know your limits
Do not work under an unsupported vehicle or attempt a roadside repair in danger. The Highway Code says to change a tyre only if it is safe; otherwise use a breakdown service.
Plan before setting off
Check your route, appropriate cover and how to contact help. A warning light or damaged tyre needs the appropriate professional check.
Watch it. Practise it. See what stuck.
